I'm wondering if you have any theories on where Mad Dogs is going and where it'll be going in the next series? :)

Great question, Anon! I’m not entirely sure I have any concrete theories, since I’m very much enjoying just seeing where the show takes us. On the other hand, I’m certainly curious about Carmen and whether or not she’s actually innocent or perhaps somewhat involved in what’s happening to them. Because it
doesn’t look like she’s in S3
so I do wonder whether they’re going to pull a twist on us there. Then again, it seems equally likely that they won’t. But all I can really predict is that the boys are going to continue to be loveable idiots and do nearly everything wrong until they ultimately end up in SA. :3 Also, if they don’t reference Woody’s “lol let’s sail to Africa” line in the next series, I’ll be sorely disappointed.

These are still some of my favorite photos of him. It’s like he’s digging being an obnoxious punk so much that he actually starts to look like he’s enjoying himself, despite the photographers and the whole red carpet situation.

Here’s the thing. I’ve seen Life on Mars and there is not an expressive enough verb to express how much I love it. But I’ve never (and by never I mean as soon as I knew anything about it) had any intention of watching Ashes to Ashes. The reasoning behind this is stupid and…

Thanks! I plan to give it a try this weekend. I hear it picks up around episode 5, so I plan to give it 6. I’m not over the moon about the inevitable tears, ‘cause I can’t even watch a vid that incorporates both LoM and A2A without getting weepy, but I figure it’s better than getting irrationally snippy whenever it comes up on my dash. Most of what you said is basically to-the-letter how I expect to feel about it, but knowing that A2A doesn’t belittle Sam’s importance is exactly what I needed to hear to motivate me to watch it. Maybe it’s stupid that I need him to still be important, but there you are.

You’re welcome! I think (and it’s been a while, so I may not be completely correct about this) that I actually preferred both series 2 and 3 to series 1. Then again (and, being as non-spoilery as I can here), I think series 3 is when Sam is mentioned most. He’s pretty darn integral to the whole thing, in fact. And if you’re anything like me, your ears will prick up every single time there’s a mention of Sam. You’ll miss him the entire bloody time but, eventually, you won’t hold that against Alex. As for those inevitable tears, they are very inevitable, I’m sorry to say. I was just destroyed over and over while watching it, but funnily enough, being destroyed by a show and still liking most of it are not mutually exclusive things! It’s very odd. And it’s not stupid at all that you need him to be important, because again, I was the exact same way. Still am, really. And while the references to him hurt (because they do, I’ll warn you), it’s better than if they’d chosen to forget him completely.

I’m probably doing a terrible job of selling Ashes here, but I’m not gonna lie and say that watching it isn’t painful. But it’s a good show, and Alex is a good character, despite the fact that the sadness of it all occasionally makes you want to curl up and die. XD

Here’s the thing. I’ve seen Life on Mars and there is not an expressive enough verb to express how much I love it. But I’ve never (and by never I mean as soon as I knew anything about it) had any intention of watching Ashes to Ashes. The reasoning behind this is stupid and it is this: I ship Gene/Sam too much. I don’t want to watch a show where Gene is without Sam and Sam is 100% dead. I’m sure Alex Drake is lovely — she really seems it — but I don’t want her to replace Sam Tyler, once of my all-time favourite fictional characters, and I don’t want to mourn Gene/Sam.

Did anyone feel this way and end up liking Ashes to Ashes anyway? (Basically I am looking to be convinced into watching it.)

Yes! That would be me, actually - back in the day, I was full of dread about watching Ashes, but I did end up liking it once I gave it a try. So maybe you ought to give it a try, because there’s always a possibility that you’ll enjoy it? Now, LoM is still my one true love, and nothing and no one can replace that show and Sam for me, so I’m still probably the most biased person you could ever talk to about this. And I won’t lie, A2A makes me really sad part of the time, and I miss Sam like fuck when I’m watching it, but actually, Alex doesn’t really quite “replace” him. A2A doesn’t belittle his importance at all, which I liked a lot. And Alex and Sam are like, both two equal halves of the…Gene Hunt love triangle…. Ahem. Okay, yeah, this is starting to get away from me. But my point is: you might still consider trying it.
